In the countdown to the 1st centenary of ANZACs in 2015, Mr. Ali Gungor as CEO and Mr. Mithat Demir as the Secretary Director of Selimiye Foundation attended the "Side by Side" project in Broadmeadows to advance multiculturalism and participation in footy on Tuesday 23 April 2013. The "Side by Side" project echoes Turkish Commander Ataturk's humanitarian poem where he consoles both Australian and Turkish that the Johnnies and the Mehmet's lie side by side in Turkey and are at home and in peace after the ANZAC Campaign. As the Local member Frank McGuire MP always says, Broadmeadows is where the Johnnies and the Mehmet's now LIVE side by side.


The Selimiye Foundation Recreation and Education Camp for the 2012 season once again was held at the magnificent Lorne Cumberland Resort between 21-26 September. This boutique seaside town with its golden beaches and friendly atmosphere is on the great ocean road at the fringe of the great Otway rangers. Over 80 families with a total of 322 people attended and enjoyed the five star facilities of their luxurious apartments with breath taking Ocean and Park views. Four seminars throughout the day were scheduled at the conference centre with the highly acclaimed Author Resit Haylamaz and local academics.


On the 24th of November 2012, Gungor Azim Tuna, Governor of Canakkale visited Melbourne with Israfil Erdogan, President of National Parks of Gallipoli. Selimiye Foundation board members took this rare opportunity to organise a conference titled Gallipoli 1915. Israfil Erdogan, whose is also a great historian on the Gallipoli war was the keynote speaker on the night. Using a slide show presentation, he explained the incidents that led to the development of the Gallipoli war and many stories that included personal experiences of some of the fallen heroes of Gallipoli.


April is a special month for Muslims across the globe. When calculated according to the solar calender, the birth day of Prophet Muhammad falls to the 20th of April. This particular week of April was declared as the “Noble Birth Week” by the Religious Affairs Commission of Turkey some years ago and it is celebrated by Muslims all over the world today. Accordingly, the Selimiye Foundation have been organizing conferences for the noble birth celebrations since 2006 and this year renowned scholar, author and TV host Dr Huseyin Yagmur was invited to Australia as the keynote speaker for the annual noble birth conference held at Ishtar Reception on 19 April 2013.
