ANATOLIAN CULTURES & ARTS FESTIVAL - MELBOURNE 2013
Once again, the taste of Anatolia came alive at the Federation Square, Melbourne on Sunday 8 December 2013. The popular event included live concerts from international and local artists, live art exhibitions, folk dances, whirling dervishes, oil wrestling, and replicas of Istanbul's Grand Bazaar, Ottoman gates and the most popular Trojan Horse. It was an event for the whole family and Melbournians from all cultural backgrounds. Participants indulged themselves with exotic cuisines from the Anatolian kitchen and live entertainment. Istanbul Culture and Arts Centre in collaboration with Melbourne International Business Association welcomed all Melbournians who joined the celebrations that attracted more than 70,000 visitors.
NOBLE BIRTH CONFERENCE
April is a special month for Muslims across the globe. When calculated according to the solar calender, the birth day of Prophet Muhammad falls to the 20th of April. This particular week of April was declared as the “Noble Birth Week” by the Religious Affairs Commission of Turkey some years ago and it is celebrated by Muslims all over the world today. Accordingly, the Selimiye Foundation have been organizing conferences for the noble birth celebrations since 2006 and this year renowned scholar, author and TV host Dr Huseyin Yagmur was invited to Australia as the keynote speaker for the annual noble birth conference held at Ishtar Reception on 19 April 2013.
